Hodge-deRham Theory of K-Forms on Carpet Type Fractals

چکیده
We outline a Hodge-deRham theory of K-forms ( for k=0,1,2) on two fractals: the Sierpinski Carpet(SC) and a new fractal that we call the Magic Carpet(MC), obtained by a construction similar to that of SC modified by sewing up the edges whenever a square is removed. Our method is to approximate the fractals by a sequence of graphs, use a standard Hodge-deRham theory on each graph, and then pass to the limit. While we are not able to prove the existence of the limits, we give overwhelming experimental evidence of their existence, and we compute approximations to basic objects of the theory, such as eigenvalues and eigenforms of the Laplacian in each dimension, and harmonic 1-forms dual to generators of 1-dimensional homology cycles. On MC we observe a Poincare type duality between the Laplacian on 0-forms and 2-forms. On the other hand, on SC the Laplacian on 2-forms appears to be an operator with continuous (as opposed to discrete) spectrum. 1Research supported by the National Science Foundation through the Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program at Cornell. 2Research supported by the National Science Foundation, grant DMS 1162045 2010 Mathematics Subject Classification. Simulation of Sierpinski-type fractals and their geometric constructions in Matlab environment
Study on properties of Sierpinski-type fractals, including dimension, measure, connectedness, Lipschitz equivalence, etc are very interesting. Although there have been some very nice results were obtained, there is still a long way to go to solve all the problems. In order to facilitate understanding of these results and further study, in this paper, we simulate this kind of fractals and their ...
متن کاملAnalysis on Products of Fractals
For a class of post–critically finite (p.c.f.) fractals, which includes the Sierpinski gasket (SG), there is a satisfactory theory of analysis due to Kigami, including energy, harmonic functions and Laplacians. In particular, the Laplacian coincides with the generator of a stochastic process constructed independently by probabilistic methods. The probabilistic method is also available for non–p...
متن کاملAn Analogue of Cobham’s Theorem for Fractals
— We introduce the notion of k-self-similarity for compact subsets of R and show that it is a natural analogue of the notion of k-automatic subsets of integers. We show that various wellknown fractals such as the triadic Cantor set, the Sierpiński carpet or the Menger sponge, turn out to be k-self-similar for some integers k. We then prove an analogue of Cobham’s theorem for compact sets of R t...
متن کاملGeometric Modelling of General Sierpinski Fractals using iterated function system in Matlab
Study on properties of general Sierpinski fractals, including dimension, measure, Lipschitz equivalence, etc is very interesting. Like other fractals, general Sierpinski fractals are so complicated and irregular that it is hopeless to model them by simply using classical geometry objects. In [22], the authors the geometric modelling of a class of general Sierpinski fractals and their geometric ...
